Immune Surveillance and Effector Functions of CCR10+ Skin Homing T Cells

Abstract: Skin homing T cells carry memory for cutaneous Ags and play an important sentinel and effector role in host defense against pathogens that enter via the skin. CCR10 is a chemokine receptor that is preferentially expressed among blood leukocytes by a subset of memory CD4 and CD8 T cells that coexpress the skin-homing receptor cutaneous lymphocyte Ag (CLA), but not the gut-homing receptor α4β7. Homing and chemokine receptor coexpression studies detailed in this study suggest that the CLA+/CCR10+ memory CD4 T cel… Show more

“…47 CCR10 (receptor for CCL27) is known as a chemokine receptor that is preferentially expressed among blood leukocytes by a subset of memory CD4 þ and CD8 þ T cells, and CCR10-positive T cells that coexpress the skin-homing receptor, cutaneous lymphocyte antigen, can act as both 'central' and 'effector' memory T cells. 48 These previous results supported our data that intratumoral injection of AdRGD-CCL17, -CCL22, or -CCL27, but not AdRGD-CCL19, was effective for promoting the anti-B16BL6 tumor efficacy and the infiltration of immune effector cells in mice immunized with gp100/DCs. Therefore, the selection of chemokine in cancer immunogenetherapy must consider the host's immune activation status and characteristics of other combined therapies on immunomodulation.…”

“…25 We sought to determine if CCR10 and other chemokine receptors are expressed by CTCL. Our findings confirm reports of a potential role of CXCR3 in MF and, by applying the WHO criteria for diagnostics, expand these findings to SS as well as other forms of CTCL.…”

“…Accordingly, CCR10 has been shown to be expressed by skinhoming effector/memory T cells expressing cutaneous lymphocyte Ag (14,17,18). Subsequently, another ligand of CCR10 was identified and termed CCL28, which is widely expressed by the epithelial cells of various mucosal tissues (11, 19 -21).…”
