Immunisation, asymptomatic infection, herd immunity and the new variants of COVID 19

Abstract: ObjectivesIs “herd immunity” to COVID-19 a realistic outcome of any immunisation programme with the two main vaccines currently licenced in the UK (Pfizer vaccine BNT162b2 and Astra Zeneca/Oxford vaccine ChAdOx1-S)? More formally, can these vaccines achieve a sufficient level of population immunity to reduce R, the reproduction number of the infection, to below one in the absence of any non-pharmaceutical interventions?DesignThe study uses simple mathematical models of the transmission of COVID-19 infection fr… Show more

“…In conclusion, we totally condemn, from a medical point of view, any national policy that necessitates these experimental vaccines and we also condemn the European Court of Human Rights shameful ruling that compulsory vaccination would not contravene human rights law. Moreover, though "experts" finally admit that their claimed vaccine induced herd immunity is very unlikely [76] or almost impossible, they continue to make it almost compulsory and even advocate for vaccine passports. Alarmingly, we condemn the trials made by some pharmaceutical companies to test those vaccines in children as well as their attempt to seek clearance of usage in children aged two years and above as other than the discovered potential short-term complications, long term ones are not excluded as well [41].…”

“…Not necessary for all individuals to pass through all stages and asymptomatic or mild symptoms are most common stages among the previous stages [38]. Because of most cases of COVID-19 are asymptomatic, herd immunity is spread among people [39].…”

“…Most individuals do not pass through all stages and asymptomatic or mild symptoms are most common (61). It is estimated that 15-30% of cases are asymptomatic, which may contribute to herd immunity (62). Individuals in the first category, also known as "stealth carriers, " do not present any symptoms and molecular testing can even be negative.…”
