Immunogenic Properties of MVs Containing Structural Hantaviral Proteins: An Original Study

Abstract: Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) is an emerging infectious disease that remains a global public health threat. The highest incidence rate is among zoonotic disease cases in Russia. Most cases of HFRS are reported in the Volga region of Russia, which commonly identifies the Puumala virus (PUUV) as a pathogen. HFRS management is especially challenging due to the lack of specific treatments and vaccines. This study aims to develop new approaches for HFRS prevention. Our goal is to test the efficacy of… Show more

“…Orthohantaviruses are zoonotic viruses that naturally persist in some reservoir species through prolonged infection. The mortality of HFRS is low overall but ranges from 0.43% to 15% depending on the infecting virus strain [47], and the mortality associated with HPS is 40-50% [48]. Europe records over 10,000 clinical cases of orthohantavirus disease each year, with case fatality rates varying from less than 1% to over 10% [49].…”

“…In another study, immunization with SEOV recombinant N protein induced high-titer antibody [ 216 ]. Recently, the efficacy of eliciting humoral and T cell immune response by delivery of PUUV Gn/Gc and N protein using microvesicles was demonstrated [ 217 ]. However, the efficacy of these recombinant proteins’ protection against lethal infection remains to be determined [ 218 ].…”
