“…The reduced RCE for IgG, which is mainly of plasma origin (Jonard et al, 1984), was not due to abnormal jejunal vascular or epithelial permeability, since jejunal clearance of Alb and the RCE of orosomucoid which is also passively transported from plasma to jejunal lumen (Jonard et al, 1984) did not change. It might be the consequence of an altered pattern of serum IgG subclass distribution, since it is well known that these subclasses differ in their physical properties (Burton, Gregory & Jefferies 1986) which in turn could affect their seepage in external fluids as during bronchoalveolar lavage (Merril et al, 1985). It is noteworthy that raised levels of IgGl and reduced levesl of IgG2 have been reported in the serum of UC patients (Shakib 1976;MacDermott et al, 1988), and that the diseased colon contains less IgG2-synthesizing plasma cells in UC, compared with CD .…”

“…When women become unable to work on their farm they turn to indoor household work, thus totally avoiding farm dust exposure. The effect of smoking on immunological responses, on the other hand, is still very poorly defined, although some evidence suggests it to be of suppressive nature [17]. Increases in antibody titres were more common in the age groups with most eflicient working capacity.…”

“…Merrill et at. [22] found that in BALF from normal persons the relative concentrations of IgGl and IgG2 were equal to those in serum. The relative concentration of IgG4 was higher in BALF than in serum, suggesting increased local production or active secretion of this protein.…”
