Impact of aircraft performance differences on fuel consumption of aircraft in air traffic management environment

Abstract: Performance differences between the aircraft types are natural and they inevitably cause problems in the air traffic system, particularly when slower aircraft types are followed by faster types in a climb or cruise queue. This paper presents the excess fuel consumption impact of aircraft performance differences in the air traffic environment. For this purpose, both climb and cruise phases of a flight mission are analyzed. Revision of the airworthiness regulations and air traffic procedures are suggested. The n… Show more

“…In the operational field, the study of the optimal trajectory has been broadly researched [69][70][71], in most of the cases linked to FCO. The FCO in the air transport sector is an old topic [72], and aside from the obvious business interests, sustainability is making it again a trending topic [73][74][75][76].…”

“…In another application, intelligent computing models are claimed for ATFM as presented in [24]. Due to the increase of air traffic density and relatively limited number of airways, the future solution for optimal airspace and safe air traffic control is proposed in [25]. A protocol for aircraft conflict resolution is proposed in [26][27][28] for information horizon in which the communication range of an aircraft is finite.…”

“…Aircraft Range Performance Parameters (ARPPs) are important not only to decrease the above-mentioned negative effects but also to maintain environmental and economic sustainability. Because of these reasons, aircraft range performance has been investigated by many authors (9)(10)(11) . The consideration of aircraft range performance, covering aircraft aerodynamic performance and engine performance, is an essential operational necessity for commercial airlines (12,13) .…”
