Impact of diffusion methods and metal cations on photochromic three-component D–A hybrid heterostructures

Abstract: D-A hybrid heterostructures are an attractive class of hybrid complexes composed of semiconducting organic and inorganic components, which make them potential applications in photoelectric fields, particularly as photochromic materials. Herein,...

“…The viologen ligand shows no photochromic effect after irradiation for 5 min (Figure S10). In addition, we found that the photochromic response time of these three compounds was significantly better than that of most viologen compounds. This indicates that the combination of viologen with POM could promote electron transfer, conducive to increasing the photochromic ability of these compounds.…”

“…Donor–acceptor (D–A) hybrid crystals are an emerging kind of crystalline hybrid materials composed of semiconductive inorganic donors and organic acceptors and have drawn considerable attention because of their potential applications in optoelectronic devices. , Among them, the HOMO of both donors and acceptors can be excited to LUMO upon light irradiation and leads to the photoinduced electron transfer (PIET), which generates photochromism. , Moreover, photochromic properties, which are mainly dependent on the inorganic components and the molecular packing modes, have been extensively investigated. Indeed, several groups, including ours, have reported an array of such D–A hybrid crystals with various inorganic components, like polyoxometalate anions, alkaline-earth metal oxide chains, and metal halides, as well as different packing patterns (with or without coordinated metal cations).…”

“…Hence, the sensitive reversible photochromic performance of SiW 12 @Zn-bcbp single crystal can be attributed to the intermolecular PIET process from POMs to organic bcbp ligand, which is similar to the traditional POMbased hybrid materials in the previous literature. [45,46] To comprehensively investigate the optoelectrical response characteristics of SiW 12 @Zn-bcbp, the devices were fabricated by using silver paste as electrodes and the corresponding I-V curves were measured by direct current two-terminal-probe method. As plotted in Figure 2c, the double-sweep characteristic I-V curves of SiW 12 @Zn-bcbp demonstrates a typical bipolar RS behavior with averaged ON/OFF ratio of 11.5 (ON/OFF currents: 8.06 × 10 −10 /7.00 × 10 −11 A) and set/reset voltages of 9.95/-11.51 V, which is comparable with some perovskitebased or POM-based hybrid memory devices (Table S4, Supporting Information).…”
