Improved Decision-Directed Early-Late Symbol Timing Error Detector

Abstract

In this paper, an improvement to the decision-directed earlylate (λ = 1) symbol timing error detector is presented. The source of self-noise is determined and canceled. Substantial improvement in the resulting additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) performance with respect to the Cramér-Rao bound has been achieved.
