Improved functional recovery by ischaemic preconditioning is not mediated by adenosine in the globally ischaemic isolated rat heart

Abstract: There is no evidence from these results to support the involvement of adenosine to any major extent in preconditioning induced protection of postischaemic contractile function in the isolated rat heart.

“…Compared with IR group, in IPC group MDA in the liver tissue was decreased and every antioxidant enzyme was increased conspicuously, which reduced the injury to mitochondrial membrane lipid peroxidation by toxic oxygen radicals, protected the integrity of the structure and function of mitochondria, and prevented the apoptosis of liver parenchyma cells. Cave et al [27] reported that, in an isolated perfused heart model, compared with sudden reperfusion (remove artery snare occluder abruptly), controllable and slow reperfusion could decrease the occurrence of ventricular fibrillation. The postconditioning treatment in the present study was essentially comparable in some senses to those controlled and slow reoxygenation.…”

However, several investigators [30,43,51,58] have questioned the imsponses persist longer than it takes Ca 2/ concentrations to return to basal levels. Activation of cell surface portance of the adenosine signaling pathway in the protection of rat myocardium, due to the failed initial atreceptors often results in regular oscillations of intracellular Ca 2/ concentration ([Ca 2/ ] i ).…”

“…In contrast to rat kidneys, IP did not protect human embryonic kidney cells in vitro, whereas rabbit ventricular myocytes and differentiated CµC12 myotubes were protected by IP (Liu et al 1996). IPrelated mechanistic information obtained in rat hearts was frequently not transferable to other species (Cave et al 1993;Grover et al 1993). Therefore, this study investigated the influence of IP on postischaemic function and morphology in porcine kidneys.…”
