Improved microwave absorbing performance of natural rubber composite with multi‐walled carbon nanotubes and molybdenum disulfide hybrids

Abstract: Multicomponent nanocomposites demonstrate many properties that are not found in their mono‐counterparts. Here, natural rubber (NR) composites with improved electromagnetic properties were prepared via incorporating hybrids of one‐dimensional multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and two‐dimensional molybdenum disulfide (MoS2). Evidenced by the morphological results, the restacking of MoS2 and the tortuous of MWCNTs are effectively inhibited due to the depletion‐effect of the different dimensional nanoblocks. … Show more

“…Two-dimensional materials with ultra-thin-layered structures are convenient for constructing excellent EMW absorbers due to their large specific surface area and excellent electronic properties. One of the most important and widely studied monolayer materials is molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ), which has excellent dielectric properties, unique morphology, and small band gaps. Wang et al prepared palygorskite/MoS 2 nanocomposites by a hydrothermal method. The suitable minimum reflection loss (RL min ) was obtained at the thickness of 2.28 mm .…”

“…[43] Moreover, the addition of MoS 2 particles significantly improve the EMI properties of the composites and very useful for many such applications. [43] The effect of different structure of nanofillers both in single and hybrid form and different concentration on mechanical properties were investigated and demonstrated.…”

“…There are studies on MWCNT and CB in hybrid with MoS 2 in different polymer composites [42,43] but their applications for piezo-electric energy harvesting in silicone rubber has received less attention and not understood fully yet. In previous work, Manikkavel et al demonstrate a robust piezo-electric energy harvesting device based on HTV and RTV silicone rubber and MWCNT but a lower voltage ($1 V) was generated.…”

“…To further enhance the performance in special aspects, chemical functionalization such as heteroatom doping endows materials with good biocompatibility, EMI shielding properties, electromagnetic properties, and thermal stability 21‐24 . As for the improvement on flame retardancy, heteroatom (P, N, and transition metal)‐doping have been reported as efficient synergistic agents 25‐28 .…”
