Improvement in quality control for applications used by marine engineers

Abstract: At present, engineering students must learn an adequate programming language that allows them to easily automate typical problems. This result is more important when we require an adequate graphical representation of the problem, as is usually done in engineering. This study presents an optimal programming language for quality control analysis. The results show that Visual Basic for Applications is the most adequate language that reduces the programming time; moreover, it is compatible with limited resources. ß Show more

“…Besides, the spreadsheet interface of MS Excel and the availability of data exchange features between the spreadsheet and VBA has made it a perfect candidate as a teaching environment for most educators. Therefore, the balance of computerized engineering and education has shifted toward Excel and VBA . Professors of Environmental Engineering Department at Yildiz Technical University recognize the advantages of using MS Excel spreadsheet and VBA in engineering education, therefore, they started an initiative for developing an MS Excel software for teaching pipe flow in undergraduate and graduate level.…”

“…MS Excel is usually available at least with a student license in most students’ computers. It includes a simplified programming language (Visual Basic for Applications [VBA]), and for this reason, several researchers pointed out that MS Excel (and VBA) is the most suitable tool for engineering education within the scope of Bologna Process . Considering complicated nature of WDN analysis, MS Excel is a perfect tool for teaching hydraulics of WDNs, and several researchers applied Excel‐based solutions to the problem of WDN analysis .…”

“…These cells accompanied with the built‐in robust coding environment, that is, Visual Basic Application (VBA), can be desirably customized to implement the methodologies required for solving different problems. VBA is identified as an optimal programming language for quality control analysis since it is not only the most adequate language that reduces the programming time but also compatible with limited resources .…”

“…To be more specific, Excel was exclusively utilized for individual purposes in many engineering fields like civil Engineering and a framework for step‐by‐step implementation was missed in previous studies . The potential of Excel spreadsheet, which was reported as the most suitable spreadsheet for some purposes , necessitates usage of this software for much more applications in engineering education than what it is in the current literature. Finally, investigation of Excel applicability in solving all kinds of physical problems can recommend Excel for several applications in different major of Civil Engineering fields.…”
