Improvement QCM Quality By Polystyrene Coating and Bovine Serum Albumin as Immobilization Agent

Abstract: Polystyrene (PS) thin film with various concentration of mass (1%, 3%, and 5%) has been deposited onto Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM)  surface by a spin coating method. The purpose of this research is the improvement of Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) immobilization into the QCM surface. The QCM resonance frequency has been investigated by means of Impedance Analyzer. The film thickness was calculated by the Sauerbrey equation. The surface roughness of the PS layer was observed by noncontact Topography Measuring… Show more

“…The electrolyte solution from the ceremai fruit was then diluted with several variations in concentration (100%, 90%, 80%, 70% and 60%) by mixing the solution with distilled water (Didik, 2020;Didik et al, 2021). The equation used to dilute the electrolyte solution of ceremai fruit used equation 1 (Didik et al, 2019;Islami et al, 2021).…”

“…The added mass on the surface of QCM resulted in the adding value of inductance, which lowered the value of resonance frequency. Thus, on the impedance-frequency graph, the value of resonance frequency moved to the left side [13]. The changes on frequency was determined by calculating the range between resonance frequency of QCM before being coated by either polystyrene or ZnPc.…”

“…In addition to its protective role in circumventing the corrosion, the layer made of polystyrene can immobilize proteins through physical absorption. Polystyrene plays a role as a matrix in biosensor, so it directly relates to analyses used in the biosensor [13]. Therefore, this research studied about morphology PS and ZnPc thin film on QCM surface.…”

“…The QCM is a piezoelectric sensor consisting of a thin quartz crystal and the two sides coated with silver or gold electrodes [12]. The working principle of QCM based on changes in resonant frequency due to changes in mass, according to the Saurbrey equation [13].…”
