Improvements in sensitivity and response times of photon imaging tubes

Abstract: In order to increase the transmission and speed of response of fibreoptic faceplates in imaging tubes a method is reported which used metallization only of the interfibre glass regions. This offers maximum transmission of the fibres whilst supporting high conductivity, as required for fast response times. An initial metal layer was laser ablated with light directed through the fibre array to provide a self-aligning process. Transmission has been increased threefold compared with earlier metal layer methods, wh… Show more

“…That aside, we would argue that empirical research on work placement can be divided into four key areas, albeit crudely -the boundaries between categories are somewhat porous. The first of these does relate to the impact of placements on academic performance (Brooks, 2012;Crawford & Wang, 2014Foster, Green, Houston, McAree, & McCann, 2011;Green, 2011;Mansfield, 2011;Reddy & Moores, 2012;Surridge, 2009). The second focal point of empirical research on placements attends to the influence of work placement on personal development (Lucas & Tan, 2014;Martin & Wilkerson, 2006;Mauldin, Zachry & Morris, 2006;Paisey & Paisey, 2010).…”

A third area for attention is related to this but focuses more specifically on the development of skills for employment (Arnold, Loan-Clarke, Harrington & Hart, 1999;Brooks, 2012;Brooks & Youngson, 2014;Gallagher, 2015;Hall, Higson & Bullivant, 2009;Smith, Lennon & Robinson, 2010). The fourth area treats the placement itself as a forum or strategy for learning (Beard, 2007;Beck & Halim 2008;Howison, 2006;Murakami, Murray, Sims & Chedzey, 2009;Pang, 2015;Sykes & Dean, 2013).…”

Initially they were inferior to a simple PMT in terms of sensitivity and pulse resolution, but in the last decade there have been significant enhancements in both sensitivity and response time [9]. Some of the results presented here used modern IPD detectors with quantum efficiency values up to ~55% and with response times that enable lifetime measurements to be made down to the microsecond range.…”

“…There are mainly two ways to decrease the effect of irising. First, the irising time can be reduced by increasing the electrical conductivity of the photocathode [13] . Adding grid and coating the surface of the photocathode are common methods.…”
