Analyzing the coupled coordination of the digital economy (DE) and agricultural green development (AGD) and exploring the main influencing factors affecting their coupled coordination are key to achieving high-quality and sustainable development in agriculture. These measures are also crucial for achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this study, we constructed a comprehensive evaluation system including two subsystems, DE and AGD, and firstly measured the development of DE and AGD and their trends in 13 provinces in China’s main grain-producing areas during the decade from 2012 to 2021 using EW-TOPSIS. Secondly, the coupling coordination development (CCD) model was used to analyze the static results and dynamic evolution process of CCD of the DE and AGD subsystems in the study area. Finally, the gray correlation degree (GCD) model was used to identify the main influencing factors in the interaction between the two systems in 2012 and 2021. The results show the following: (1) The development levels of DE and AGD generally rose during the study period, but the development level gap between regions was obvious, and the development of DE relatively lagged behind. (2) The level of CCD increased year by year, and the overall process changed from “uncoordinated” to “coordinated”. (3) At the beginning of the study period, the development achievements of DE had a great impact on the process of AGD. The application of advanced agricultural technology in the AGD system and the process of agricultural industry upgrading had a profound impact on the development of DE. However, a decade later, the main factors had changed. This paper analyzes the results of the above empirical study in time and space, aiming to provide policymakers with new working ideas to achieve the SDGs.

Improving agricultural green total factor productivity is important for achieving high-quality economic development and the SDGs. Digital inclusive finance, which combines the advantages of digital technology and inclusive finance, represents a new scheme that can ease credit constraints and information ambiguity in agricultural production. First, this study focused on agro-ecological functions; we incorporated total agricultural carbon sequestration and emissions extraction into the evaluation system and used the mixed-direction-distance function to calculate agricultural green total factor productivity. Then, based on panel data from 31 provinces in China collected from 2011 to 2021, we used the two-way fixed effect model, the interactive fixed effect, and the plausibly exogenous variable method to test the impact of digital financial inclusion on agricultural green total factor productivity, and its mechanism of action. The panel-corrected standard error and fixed effect Driscoll–Kraay methods were used to account for the unobserved heterogeneity and cross-section dependence in the panel data. The results showed that digital financial inclusion can significantly improve agricultural green total factor productivity. This conclusion remained valid following robustness tests using the spatial econometric model and the method of changing explanatory variables. Digital financial inclusion can improve agricultural green total factor productivity by facilitating the transfer of agricultural land. Sound digital infrastructure and strict green credit policies enhance the role of digital inclusive finance in promoting the green development of agriculture. These conclusions could help the financial sector to formulate flexible, accurate, reasonable, and appropriate financial policies and products that would support agriculture, and enhance the role of digital inclusive finance in promoting sustainable agricultural development.

The use of economic instruments within environmental policy has become a challenging topic for policymakers, governments and scholars. Environmental taxes have emerged as a prevailing preference in developed countries to promote sustainability. Recently, a particular focus has been given to waste generation and disposal, shifting the attention from greenhouse gases to another important source of environmental pollution. This paper investigates the effect of national environmental taxes and policies on industrial waste. A fixed effects model is used for 34 countries across Europe from 2004 to 2022. The results suggest that environmental taxes and energy policies reduce industrial (hazardous and non-hazardous) waste. However, environmental tax reforms should take into consideration the deterioration in environmental quality, the increase in economic costs and undesirable social consequences.
