Improving our understanding on the clinical role of plasmin-mediated von Willebrand factor degradation

Abstract: Purpose of review Von Willebrand factor (VWF) plays a pivotal role in primary hemostasis. A Disintegrin And Metalloproteinase with a ThromboSpondin type 1 motif, member 13 (ADAMTS13) is primarily responsible for cleaving ultra-large VWF multimers into smaller, less adhesive forms.
