Improving Smart Home Security: Integrating Logical Sensing Into Smart Home

Abstract: Abstract-The paper explains various security issues in the existing home automation systems and proposes the use of logic based security algorithms to improve home security. The work classifies natural access points to a home as primary and secondary access points depending on their use. Logic based sensing is implemented by identifying normal user behavior at these access points and requesting user verification when necessary. User position is also considered when various access points changed states. Moreove… Show more

“…Home automation is one of the major areas which came under the impact of emerging IoT paradigm [12]. Smart homes not only provide automation but save the energy consumption also [13]. The switching model, which is presented in this paper, can exceedingly enhance the performance and security of the smart home systems while providing the remote control to the owner of the house.…”

“…modified simple network management protocol (SNMP), OpenFlow and our proposed scheme (OF-ANM scheme). Modified SNMP also known as 6LowPAN-SNMP [21] is the extended modification of SNMP, motivated to achieve the goals in RFC 4919 (which describes how LowPANs could benefit from IPv6 networking) [22,23] and RFC 4944 (which describes the frame format for IPv6 packet transmission and the method of forming IPv6 link-local addresses and stateless auto-configuration of addresses [24][25][26] on IEEE 802.15.4 networks). Modified SNMP aims to provide native communication [27][28][29] of SNMP messages on 6LowPAns, it is highly efficient with regard to resource usage and it is also fully compatible with the SNMP standard.…”

“…It contains an in-depth report of the main aspects of this area, such as the most common threats and good practices as well as a brief protocol analysis and security implications of using of cloud platform on smart homes. One step beyond is given from [7], in which the authors not only describe the main security and privacy threads, but introduce an algorithm to secure each situation. Finally, they test them in a real-environment with successful results.…”
