Improving the Resilience of UAV in Non-segregated Airspace Using Multiagent Paradigm

Abstract: During the last years, Europe and USA have made efforts to integrate Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in a non-segregated controlled airspace, aiming at their civilian use. So far, there has been no consensus on the criteria to be adopted by the community to, at least, keep the minimum safety levels as those already attained by international aviation. In this scenario, commercial aircrafts -with an increasing amount of passengers -and UAVs could be sharing the same airspace. There are a lot of concerns about th… Show more

“…UAVs are extensively utilized in various domains such as health, agriculture, package delivery, disaster management, and surveillance (Bhatt, Pourmand, & Sikka, 2018;Euchi, 2021;Otto et al, 2018;Pathak, Mohod, & Sawant, 2020;Politi et al, 2021;Shah et al, 2020;Sujit, Saripalli, & Sousa, 2014;Thiels et al, 2015). Their rapid rise challenges integrating them harmoniously into traditional aircraft-dominated airspace (Correa et al, 2012;Pop et al, 2017;Shaaban Ali et al, 2022).…”

“…In the NAS, the ability to "sense and avoid" other air traffic is an important standard to achieve. 2,3 Developing common regulations and operational protocols required for safe operations of these systems can be difficult because of the large variety of UAS types, sizes, and flight profiles. 4,5,6 The paradigm shift from protecting onboard occupants to those on the ground and in other aircraft also introduces regulatory challenges.…”
