Improving the Silk Industry by Studying the Effect of Several Aqueous Extracts to Enhance the Efficiency of Silkworm Bombyx mori L. Production

Abstract: Mulberry leaves have a high nutritional value for larval silkworm so fortification with plant and animal extracts that contain antioxidant and phytochemical properties and amino acids improve the sericultural industry. Data cleared that, Mulberry leaves that fortified with 2.5% Aloe Vera recorded the highest value in all traits significantly. Although, Taurine with a recommended dose showed the high value in all biochemical analyses after Aloe Vera the results differed in biological and cocoon traits. Also, Mo… Show more

“…Young larvae (1st~3rd instars) were reared at 27~28 °C and 85%~90% relative humidity, and the late-age larvae (4 th and 5 th instars) were maintained at 24~26 °C with a relative humidity of 70%~80%. Rearing was carried out under hygienic conditions according to (Marwa 2020). At the beginning of the 4 th instar, larvae were divided into three groups, each one containing 300 larvae that were divided into three replicates (each one containing 100 larvae).…”

“…After feeding silkworm larvae with five candidate metabolites, the expression levels of relevant key enzyme genes of different metabolic pathways were analysed to identify the metabolites associated with BmNPV resistance, including glucose, inosine, taurine (Sangon Biotech, Shanghai, China), L‐serine (Yuntai, Shanghai, China) and a 1:1 (v/v) mixture of iron (II) fumarate (IF; Yuanye, Shanghai, China) and folic acid (FA; RHAWN, Shanghai, China). The concentration of the metabolite solution was optimised according to the method described in previous studies (Moustafa, 2020; Tang et al, 2021; Wang et al, 2022). The working solution of 0.4 M glucose, 0.05 M L‐serine, 0.075 M inosine and 0.08 M taurine in ddH 2 O was prepared.…”

“…Silkworm seeds were imported from India (PM X CSR2) and then incubated at 27 ± 1°C and 80 ± 5% RH till hatching. Rearing was carried out under hygienic conditions according to Marwa (2020). Newly hatched silkworm reared in the summer season at 29-32 °C and relative humidity 80-90% RH.…”
