Improving Traffic Flow Characteristics by Suppressing Shared Taxis Maneuvers

Abstract: The sudden maneuver of shared taxi through lanes in order to pick-up and drop-off passengers and asking their destinations -due to lack of designated stop locations-may lead to disorder in traffic flow. The main hypothesis in this research was that shared taxis sudden maneuvers and lane changings have negative effects on traffic flow characteristics and subsequently, suppressing these maneuvers will improve traffic flow characteristics. For this purpose, a study was done on a path in the city of Isfahan in Ira… Show more

“…The presence of mass passenger flows in the city determines the pendulum principle of their formation in several directions of the regular route network at certain periods of the day, depending on the time of operation of these centres [23]. The problem of transport congestion has also been discussed in scientific publications [18,25,58]. Many researchers associate the phenomenon of transport congestion with environmental pollution.…”

“…The forecasting of traffic states has always been a popular topic in transportation research. Several investigations have been conducted both for freeway and urban traffic parameter prediction, such as traffic flow, travel time, occupancy, probability of congestion, or emission (Vlahogianni et al 2014;Zefreh, Török 2016;Buzási, Csete 2015). In our days, especially short-term road traffic prediction has become an important problem due to the new mobility trends, i.e.…”

“…If these maneuvers occur in no-passing or dangerous zones, they may lead to severe accidents and increase injuries and fatalities (Coufal and Semela, 2016). Therefore, overtaking maneuver is one of the most dangerous maneuvers on two-lane, two-way rural roads and the accident severity resulting from this type of maneuver is significantly higher than that of other accident types (Bar-Gera, 2011;Maghrour Zefreh and Török, 2016).…”
