In-Silico Monte Carlo Simulation Trials for Investigation of V2O5 Reinforcement Effect on Ternary Zinc Borate Glasses: Nuclear Radiation Shielding Dynamics

Abstract: In the current study, promising glass composites based on vanadium pentoxide (V2O5)-doped zinc borate (ZnB) were investigated in terms of their nuclear-radiation-shielding dynamics. The mass and linear attenuation coefficient, half-value layer, mean free path, tenth-value layer, effective atomic number, exposure-buildup factor, and energy-absorption-buildup factor were deeply simulated by using MCNPX code, Phy-X PSD code, and WinXcom to study the validation of ZBV1, ZBV2, ZBV3, and ZBV4 based on (100−x)(0.6ZnO… Show more

“…The most effective factor in reducing the radiation dose and its harmful effects is to put the barrier between the radiation sources. The material that creates this barrier is called shielding material [ 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ]. The material to be used in the shielding design differs according to the type and energy of the radiation to be shielded.…”

“…Finally, the HVL values for the VPCu8 sample were compared to those for various kinds of concrete [ 28 ] and the ZBV4 sample [ 29 ]. The HVL values obtained for comparable materials in the 0.015–15 MeV photon energy range are shown in Table 3 .…”

“…Phosphorus oxide (P 2 O 5 ) and boron oxide (B 2 O 3 ) have recently attracted increasing interest as excellent glass formers with their low melting temperatures. Boro-phosphate glasses are characterized by improved chemical stability as well as high mechanical and optical properties 1 7 .…”

“…These glasses usually contain transition metal oxides that possess electrical conductivity owed to polyvalent transition metal ions 8 13 . Vanadate glasses present the highest electron conductivity among oxide glasses, making them attractive for optoelectronic materials 1 , 4 , 8 , 14 – 18 . Vanadium oxide added in small amounts to phosphate glasses acts as a network modifier by depolymerizing long phosphate chains 2 .…”
