“…[ 19–21 ] However, unlike the reaction in which Fe 3 O 4 was reduced to Fe, hydrogen could reduce the lamellar oxides to the spherical ones in GOSS, and the reduction could be accelerated with the increase of temperature, as found in our previous research. [ 22 ] In addition, the N distributions in Figure 1e,j indicate that N atoms are not in the oxide particles but in the matrix; i.e., N atoms penetrate into the iron matrix by diffusion during nitriding.…”

“…The oxide subscale was initially formed in the oxidizing atmosphere of the process of decarburization, and regulated further in the reducing atmosphere of the process of reduction. The composition and thickness of the oxide layer have significant influences on the subsequent process of nitriding [19], as well as high-temperature annealing. The subsequent results of nitriding, Mg 2 SiO 4 substrate formation, and the final magnetic performances of the materials tested show that a suitable oxide subscale was achieved in the pilot line.…”

“…[17][18]. However, details about the nitriding kinetics, and most of all on the influence of the oxide layer on nitriding kinetics, and thus on the nitrogen enrichment and on control of the precipitation of inhibitors are missing in the literature [19][20][21][22][23][24][25].…”
