In Vitro Antioxidant Activity and HPTLC Analysis of Borago officinalis Linn.

Abstract: Borage (Borago officinalis L.) is known drug in Unani system of medicine which is very popular as Gaozaban and used in various khamira (semi solid Unani formulations) for cardioprotection. In the present study, a comparative antioxidant potential of different extracts of borage leaves along with rosmarinic acid (positive marker of the drug) was carried out using DPPH and nitric oxide free radical scavenging method prior to estimated total phenolic content in each extract. The suitable solvent systems were deve… Show more

“…Bandoniene and Murkovic (2002) [67] used HPLC-DPPH to detect radical-scavenging compounds in the hydromethanolic extract, with antioxidant capacity mainly attributed to rosmarinic acid (15.8 mg/g dry matter). García-Iñiguez-de-Ciriano et al (2009) [70] explored the radical scavenging properties of an aqueous [68] conducted antioxidant tests on various leaf extracts (i. e., methanol, chloroform, and petroleum ether). The methanolic extract demonstrated superior DPPH and nitric oxide scavenging activities compared to the others.…”
