In Vitro Cytotoxic Activity Test of Tampa Badak (Voacanga foetida (Blume) Leaves on L1210 Leukemia

Abstract: Based on previous research, the ethanolic extract of the Voacanga foetida (Blume) Rolfe plant has cytotoxic activity using the Brine Shrimps Lethality test. Therefore, further tested the anticancer activity of extracts, fractions and isolated compounds from V. foetida leaves in vitro on L1210 leukemia cells using the direct cell count method with positive control doxorubicin. The results showed that the methanol extract, fraction of butanol fraction, ethyl acetate, and hexane, as well as isolated compounds Tb1… Show more

“…Rolfe) is an Indonesian medicinal plant from the Apocynaceae family. Based on our previous work, the leaves methanolic extracts, their fractions (n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and butanol fractions), and some isolated compounds from this plant were reported to have highly cytotoxic activity against L1210 blood cancer cells 10 . One isolated compound from this plant's butanol fraction of leaves ethanolic extract was also tested against various cancer cell lines (K562, A549, HeLa), and the isolate exhibited a highly cytotoxic activity 11 .…”

“…Ethanol extract of V. foetida leaves has been reported to exhibit in vivoanalgesic activity [7], whereas the ethyl acetate extract of this plant leaves exhibited strong cytotoxic activity against HTB-38 colon cancer cells [8] and T47D breast cancer cells [9]. In addition, n-hexane, ethyl acetate, n-butanol fractions and several isolated compounds from V. foetida leaves were reported to have good cytotoxic activity against L1210 leukemia cell lines [10]. Then, one isolated compound from n-butanol fraction of V. foetida leaves also exhibited anti-proliferation activities against several cell lines including leukemia, lung, and cervical cancers [11].…”
