In vitro-digested milk proteins: Evaluation of angiotensin-1-converting enzyme inhibitory and antioxidant activities, peptidomic profile, and mucin gene expression in HT29-MTX cells

Abstract: In vitro digested milk proteins: evaluation of Angiotensin-1-Converting Enzyme Inhibitory and antioxidant activities, peptidomic profile and mucin gene expression in HT29-MTX cells by Giromini et al. We studied the bioactive effect of in vitro digested whey protein isolate (WPI), casein proteins (CP) and soy proteins (CTR) in term of Angiotensin-1-Converting Enzyme Inhibitory activity (ACE1-I), antioxidant (AOX) and intestinal HT29-MTX-E12 cell metabolic activity and mucus-production. Our results indicate that… Show more

“…Previously, the significance of cell models and cell-based assays available for screening antioxidants was described [ 25 ]. In particular, intestinal cell models are widely utilized for the validation of bioactive compounds in food and feed analysis [ 15 , 26 , 27 , 28 ]. Earlier, the anti-inflammatory and anti-necroptosis activity of ω3-PUFAs were demonstrated in normal and cancer enterocyte models [ 12 , 13 , 17 ].…”

“…The digestion procedure was performed twice (2 biological replicates). Whey protein (90%) was included as a reference sample for stability tests in all digestions performed, as previously indicated in Giromini et al [ 17 ].…”

“…Due to such restrictions, alternatives to antibiotics and alternatives to zinc oxide are urgently needed to guarantee animal production in line with health principles [ 11 , 12 ]. In this scenario, plant extracts can represent a valuable alternative as a natural source of functional compounds, such as polyphenolic compounds [ 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 ]. Among polyphenols, tannins derived from plant extracts are the largest class which can be classified into hydrolysable (HTs) or condensed (CTs) subgroups [ 18 ].…”

“…MET-ADS in vitro digestion was performed according to the method of Minekus et al [27] and further adapted by Giromini et al [28] and Miralles et al [29]. Briefly, 20 g of MET-ADS were mixed with 150 mL of distilled H 2 O and maintained on an orbital shaker at 150 rpm for 5 min.…”
