In Vitro Drug Interactions Study of Lisinopril with Metformin

Abstract: : This study investigates the in vitro interactions of lisinopril with metformin which is important forthe possible formulation of polypills comprising both drugs. The study was conducted using the USP apparatus II paddle method. The media used were buffer pH 1.2, 4.5, and 6.8 (p = 0.0052; p = 0.0037; and p = 0.0155, respectively). The effect of metformin on the dissolution profile of lisinopril was only statistically significant at pH 1.2 and 6.8 with an increase in the percentage of lisinopril released (… Show more

“…ACEI (Lisinopril), the first-line anti-hypertensive agent, and Metformin, a favored oral management of diabetes, are frequently prescribed together. Except for the major indications, these two medications have renoprotective and cardioprotective properties, respectively, and the concomitant use of Lisinopril and Metformin increased the blood glucose lowering effects of Metformin ( 40 ), while significantly decreasing blood pressure variability and mean blood pressure ( 41 ). Evidence supports the benefits of the combined therapy of ACEI + Beta Blocker in patients with a broad spectrum of cardiovascular diseases ( 42 ).…”
