Inbreeding Levels and Pedigree Structure of Korean Indigenous Chicken Population

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to estimate the inbreeding level and effective population size of Korean indigenous chickens. In the study, two variables were considered to evaluate the pedigree completeness: (1) the proportion (%) of animals with complete pedigree, and (2) the proportion of animals with inbreeding coefficients greater than zero. In the proportion of animals having complete pedigree, all strains reached almost 100% completeness in 1∼2 years. In the proportion of animals with inbreeding coefficie… Show more

“…Moreover, KNC has a higher content of inosine 5’-monophosphate (IMP), which is a nucleotide in the muscle that imparts flavor to the meat ( Ahn and Park, 2002 ; Choe et al, 2010 ). Several prior studies have discussed the physicochemical traits of and sensory experiments with KNC and CB chicken meat to improve KNC breed characteristics ( Cha et al, 2017 ; Jung et al, 2013 ; Lee et al, 2018 ). Even though consumer sensory expectations of chicken could differ due to inherent meat properties, there is a lack of research on consumer perceptions.…”

“…Descriptive statistics of monthly household income distributionJin et al, 2014;Cha et al, 2017;Lee et al, 2018;Lee et al, 2019)는 다수 존재하지만, 실제 구매데이터를 바탕으 로 소비자 행동을 조사한 연구는 미미했다. 따라서 본 연구 는 농촌진흥청에서 주관하는 소비자 패널 데이터와 설문조 사 2차 자료를 활용하여 패널 가구의 토종닭 구매 경험 및 구매 비중에 영향을 주는 요인을 분석하였다.…”
