Incidence of Prunus necrotic ring spot virus on Malus domestica in India

Abstract: In surveys of apple (Malus domestica) orchards in various parts of Himachal Pradesh, samples from trees showing necrotic symptoms on the leaves were collected and tested for detection of Prunus necrotic ringspot virus (PNRSV) initially by ELISA followed by RT-PCR using coat protein gene primers. Positive results were obtained in samples from Kullu and Kalpa regions. The virus gene sequences showed 88-97% similarity to corresponding sequences of other PNRSV isolates deposited in the GenBank database using ncbi.… Show more

“…Fiore et al [10] recognized that this group was outside of the classical phylogenetic scheme represented by PV96, PV32, and PE5 clusters; but at the same time, they stated that, based on the use of an alternative statistical approach, the four-cluster likelihoodmapping method, these accessions were considered as part of PV96 phylogroup. Gradually, the number of accessions increased including those Indian accessions described by Chandel et al [53][54][55]. Based on a careful phylogenetic study of the coat protein-encoding gene of PNRSV, Boulila [15] stressed that a distinct phylogroup emerged due possibly to different evolutionary traits.…”

“…In earlier studies in India, PNRSV is reported on peach apple and nectarine (Chandel et al 2007(Chandel et al , 2008a. Hence, further surveys were conducted on different stone fruit-growing areas in HP (Solan, Chamba, Sirmour, Kullu, and Palampur) and J&K to check the incidence of PNRSV, viral symptoms were observed on leaves of plum, cherry and almond.…”
