“…Spectrum vs Structure Relationship. The spectral pattern of CuPaz aggregation (Figures 3 and 6b) has not much in common with one of other azaporphyrines 2,3,14,17,24,28,31 and is surely beyond the scope of the exiton-coupling model. 39 However, its individual features are not unique.…”

“…Under such conditions, aggregation was caused not only by the π−π coupling but also by interactions between peripheral substituents and multiple solvation effects. The crucial role of solvation is clearly illustrated by aggregation behavior of n -alkyl-substituted Pc's in a monolayer on the water surface; compression-induced aggregation appears only if the floating layer is added with a fatty acid. Another questionable point is the similar values of the aggregation constants determined for differently substituted Pc's. , Hence, it is possible to infer that the heats derived from such constants in the work 5 have a vague relation with the π−π coupling as well.…”

“…The limiting area of the pure EMR film, determined by extrapolating the linear part of the isotherms to zero pressure, 130 Å 2 , is in good agreement with the values between 130 and 160 Å 2 observed in previous studies of related substances. 18,27,28 For the mixed films the mean molecular area decreases with increasing C 60 proportion. Since C 60 does not form a monolayer at the air-water interface, the limiting molecular areas taking only EMR molecules into account were calculated and plotted as a function of C 60 proportion.…”

“…However, if a minuscule amount of calixarene was added, it remained stable and a layer could be produced. Richardson et al in their studies have shown calixarene to be an ideal LB material and mixtures with calixarenes have proved to form good LB films [11][12][13]. Hence calix [8]arene was used to enhance the film stability of the traditional non-LB material, Si 4 Pc.…”
