Inclusive heavy quark photoproduction in pp , pPb and PbPb collisions at Run 2 LHC energies

Abstract: In this paper we present a comprehensive analysis of the inclusive heavy quark photoproduction in pp, pP b and P bP b collisions at Run 2 LHC energies using the Color Dipole formalism. The rapidity distributions and total cross sections for the charm and bottom production are estimated considering the more recent phenomenological models for the dipole -proton scattering amplitude, which are based on the Color Glass Condensate formalism and are able to describe the inclusive and exclusive ep HERA data. Moreover… Show more

“…This should be supplemented by additional LHC data on dijet photoproduction, and, hopefully photoproduction of open charm, and, possibly, bottom [91][92][93]. Charm and bottom hadrons are produced at relatively high rates, and their detection will benefit from the next generation of LHC vertex detectors.…”

“…Open charm can be detected relatively near threshold (M cc ≈ a few times m c ), so it can probe lower x and Q 2 gluons than dijets (48). Charmed quarks, with a charge of +2/3e, have a particularly large cross section (49,50). The disadvantage is that charm quarks can hadronize to several different hadrons, each with several possible final states.…”

“…where N h (x, r , b h ) is the forward dipole-hadron scattering amplitude, which is dependent on the modelling of the QCD dynamics at high energies. As in our previous study [21], we will consider the bCGC [22] and IP-SAT [23] models for the description of the dipole-proton scattering. Although these models differ in the treatment of the impact parameter dependence and/or of the linear and non-linear regimes, both describe quite well the high precision HERA data.…”
