Income/Wf — A Petri Net Based Approach to Workflow Management

Abstract: Flexibility of process support is a key requirement for current and future business applications. A technology which is designed to flexibly support various kinds of processes are workflow management systems. In this paper we present INCOME/WF -a prototype of a workflow management system based on high-level Petri nets as workflow modelling and execution language. Important requirements for INCOME/WF are easily adjustable workflow schemes and support for unstructured or weakly structured activities. Both requir… Show more

“…Modeling of Workflow Applications. Some related works have proposed to use Petri nets as a standard language for workflow modelling [15] [12]. Considering classical Petri nets are not powerful enough for modelling workflows, Van Der Aalst and al have elevated it to high level Petri nets by adding time, colour, and hierarchy [12].…”

“…Several analysis techniques, including verification have been developed for FunSoft nets [18]. INCOME/WF [49] is a a workflow management system based on high-level Petri nets where the tokens are nested relations. Nested relations are introduced to increase the concurrency of the net: the actual transitions are defined on the basic elements of the relation, not on the relation itself.…”
