Increasing Production and Injection in Multilateral Horizontal Wells in Naturally Fractured Carbonate Reservoirs by Rigless Intervention—A Case Study, Offshore, Qatar

Abstract: Due to the complexity and cost of stimulating horizontal multilateral wells in an offshore environment, all aspects of this project type must be considered prior to project implementation. Utilizing all technical disciplines to understand the reservoir characteristics and select intervention candidates greatly influences the chance of success for any project. During 2006–2008, 39 wells (19 producers, 17 water injectors and 3 gas injectors) were stimulated in the Shuaiba reservoir in Idd El Sh… Show more

“…This improved electrofacies and permeability estimation proves essential to obtaining a good production history match, as shown herein (see Steps 4 through 8). It is invaluable to characterize complicated reservoirs properly under difficult scenarios and conditions, as outlined in a previous paper (Lisigurski et al 2009). …”

“…The reason is due to the fact that on a larger scale, there is no window for error as it can have potential drastic financial consequences if not applied correctly. Lisigurski et al 2009 discussed a carbonate formation that was extensively fractured and faulted because of domal uplift and regional tectonic events. Drilling long multilateral wells to intersect several fractures and faults is the ideal way to develop that reservoir.…”
