Increasing the regulating ability of a wind turbine in a local power system using magnetic continuous variable transmission

Abstract: The paper is devoted to investigations of dynamic processes in a local power system consisting of wind turbines with a magnetic continuously variable transmission. Due to low inertia of wind turbine generator rotors, there is a problem of ensuring dynamic stability at sharp load changes or at short circuits in an autonomous power system. To increase dynamic stability of the system, two algorithms for controlling a magnetic continuously variable transmission are presented. The first algorithm stabilizes a rotat… Show more

“…Recently, the interest of researchers has been attracted to controlled magnetic and electromagnetic variators to establish flexible coupling between the turbine and the generator in order to stabilize operation mode parameters [15]. The use of magnetic and electromagnetic variators in the wind power engineering allows to increase reliability and life of generating equipment and to expand the scope of application of wind turbines, including that in the Arctic conditions.…”

“…In particular, there are constraints on the value of installed capacity of the wind farm generating power for shared buses of the electric power system [11]. Additionally, as a countermeasure to the asynchronous run in stand-alone electric power systems, DC inserts [12], energy storage devices [11,13], magnetic gearboxes and variators in wind turbines [14], elements of emergency control automatics [15] are used.…”

“…Também observa-se que alterações no plano original da campanha criam vulnerabilidades e o fator humano é determinante para isso, pois Roberts afirmava que Star Citizen custaria até $14 milhões, mas mudou o discurso em busca de "um jogo maior e mais desafiador, um sonho a se realizar", o que após arrecadar quase $240 milhões de dólares, continua sendo apenas um sonho (NEHKARA et al, 2019;ROBERTS, 2015;YIN-POOLE, 2012). “…Energy storages are also used as a damper in various transient processes. Their use is required in wind-diesel systems to ensure electromechanical compatibility of various sources of electrical energy with different dynamic parameters (Adkins et al, 2010; Bhuiyan and Yazdani, 2012; Chong et al, 2016; Udalov et al, 2018; Bashmakov and Dzedzichek, 2017; Bhuiyan and Yazdani, 2012).…”
