Indirect Complexometric Titration of Beryllium with Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid

Abstract: When Luteo salt was added to beryllium carbonate complex solution, the precipitate [Co(NH3)6] [(H2O)2Be2(CO3)2(OH)3]·3H2O was obtained. In this experiment, the indirect determination of beryllium was tried by the titration of the cobalt content in the precipitate with EDTA. The following procedures were examined mainly; the formation of the precipitate II, the decomposition of the precipitate and titration of cobalt in the presence of beryllium. In the optimum conditions, 0.70 to 3.50 mg. of beryllium were det… Show more

“…A stock solution of BeCl 2 was prepared by dissolving analytical grade BeCl 2 purchased from Central European Renewable Acquisition Corp. (Milwaukee, USA) by a 0.10 mol l −1 HCl solution in order to prevent hydrolysis of Be 2+ ion. The concentration of the BeCl 2 stock solution was determinated by ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid complexometry . Other reagents used in this work without further purification were of analytical grade.…”

“…The adsorption of beryllium on Dowex 1 has also been investigated by Misumi and Taketatsu (10) and Nelson and Kraus (11) in carbonate and citrate solutions, respectively. In such media, however, separation of beryllium from other elements such as other group II elements-uranium, etc.-is relatively poor.…”
