“…The intensity increase almost terminates within 3 min, indicating that only 3 min assay is required for CN – sensing. This assay time can be classified as one of the shortest class among the early reported CN – receptors. In the case for CN – detection by the receptor 1 , preliminary UV irradiation (ca. 30 min) is necessary to produce the MC form (Scheme ).…”

“…A number of receptors that detect very small amounts of CN – (<1.9 μM) at reliable levels [signal-to-background (S/B) ratio ≥ 3] have been proposed. Some of these receptors, however, produce metal salts or halogens as waste. Other receptors act only in organic media, show insufficient selectivity, or need a long time (>30 min) for detection. To the best of our knowledge, there is no report of a receptor that overcomes all of these issues. The design of a new receptor that facilitates rapid, selective, and sensitive detection of CN – is therefore necessary.…”

“…The reaction was carried out according to the modified literature procedure . To a colorless solution of N -hydroxyethyltrimethylindolium bromide (283 mg, 1.00 mmol) and 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde (146 mg, 1.20 mmol) in EtOH (2 mL) was added Et 3 N (2 drops).…”
