Induced Casimir Force between Heavy Particles Substituted in an Oscillator Chain

Abstract: The induced Casimir energy for a subsystem consisting of two heavy particles substituted at a finite distance in a linear chain of interacting oscillators is obtained. The heavy particles are linearly interacting with the nearest neighbor particles. A continuum modeling for the discrete case is considered and the corresponding Casimir energy is calculated. The result obtained from the continuum modeling agrees with the discrete model qualitatively.
