Infant Mortality and Life Expectancy: The Inequitable Loss of Potential Life

Abstract: ISSUE BRIEFDifferences in life expectancy between racial and other subgroups of the population indicate inequities in the community. There are both societal and physical factors-including racism, poverty, and access to care-that must be resolved to increase and equalize life expectancy and decrease the infant mortality rate.
