Ovarian cancer (OC) is one of the most lethal cancers, largely due to a late diagnosis. This study aimed to provide a comprehensive meta-analysis on the diagnostic performance of IL6 in the blood and ascites separately for advanced and early-stage OC. We included 37 studies with 6948 participants detecting serum or plasma IL6. The plasma/serum IL6 mean level in the late-stage OC was 23.88 pg/mL (95% CI: 13.84–41.23), and the early-stage OC was 16.67 pg/mL (95% CI: 510.06–27.61), significantly higher than the healthy controls at 3.96 pg/mL (95% CI: 2.02–7.73), but not significantly higher than those found in the controls with benign growths in the ovary, which was 9.63 pg/mL (95% CI: 4.16–22.26). To evaluate IL6 in ascites as a diagnostic marker, we included 26 studies with 1590 participants. The mean level of ascitic IL6 in the late-stage OC was 3676.93 pg/mL (95% CI: 1891.7–7146.7), and the early-stage OC was 1519.21 pg/mL (95% CI: 604.6–3817.7), significantly higher than the benign controls at 247.33 pg/mL (95% CI: 96.2–636.0). There was no significant correlation between the levels of circulating and ascitic IL6. When pooling all OC stages for analysis, we found that serum/plasma IL6 provided 76.7% sensitivity (95% CI: 0.71–0.92) and 72% specificity (95% CI: 0.64–0.79). Ascitic IL6 provided higher sensitivity at 84% (95% CI: 0.710–0.919) and specificity at 74% (95% CI: 0.646–0.826). This study highlights the utility of ascitic IL6 for early detection of OC.

Background: The serum albumin, albumin-to-globulin ratio (AGR), and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) have been recommended to represent the nutritional and inflammatory status. Thus, they may be potential prognostic biomarkers for cancer. However, contradictory results were reported in different studies on glioma. The goal of this study was to perform a meta-analysis to re-evaluate their prognostic potential for glioma. Methods: Databases of PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library were systematically searched to enroll all the studies investigating the prognostic significance of albumin, AGR, and PNI for glioma. Pooled hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using STATA 13.0 software to indicate the intensity of association. Results: Eleven studies with 2928 cases were included. Overall meta-analysis showed that the prognostic values of albumin, AGR, and PNI were limited for glioma ( P > .05). However, subgroup analysis demonstrated a high preoperative serum albumin was significantly related with excellent OS of patients with GBM (HR = 0.95, 95% CI: 0.91–0.99, P = .018), while high PNI (HR = 0.56, 95% CI: 0.43–0.73, P < .001) and AGR (HR = 0.57, 95% CI: 0.34–0.96, P = .034) may be a protective factor of favorable OS for patients with high-grade gliomas. Furthermore, integration of all studies with multivariate analysis and clear cut-off also proved reduced preoperative serum albumin, AGR, and PNI were predictors of poor prognosis for patients with gliomas. Conclusion: Preoperative serum albumin, AGR, and PNI may represent promising biomarkers to predict the prognosis in patients with glioma, especially for high-grade.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a sort of new technical science which can simulate, extend and expand human intelligence by developing theories, methods and application systems. In the last five years, the application of AI in medical research has become a hot topic in modern science and technology. Gynecological malignant tumors involves a wide range of knowledge, and AI can play an important part in these aspects, such as medical image recognition, auxiliary diagnosis, drug research and development, treatment scheme formulation and other fields. The purpose of this paper is to describe the progress of AI in gynecological malignant tumors and discuss some problems in its application. It is believed that AI improves the efficiency of diagnosis, reduces the burden of clinicians, and improves the effect of treatment and prognosis. AI will play an irreplaceable role in the field of gynecological malignant oncology and will promote the development of medicine and further promote the transformation from traditional medicine to precision medicine and preventive medicine. However, there are also some problems in the application of AI in gynecologic malignant tumors. For example, AI, inseparable from human participation, still needs to be more “humanized”, and needs to further protect patients’ privacy and health, improve legal and insurance protection, and further improve according to local ethnic conditions and national conditions. However, it is believed that with the continuous development of AI, especially ensemble classifier, and deep learning will have a profound influence on the future of medical technology, which is a powerful driving force for future medical innovation and reform.

Abstract: Poor nutrition and high inflammatory status negatively influence surgical and oncological outcomes of patients with OC. These preoperative markers can be used for selection of patients for neoadjuvant chemotherapy at high risk of short survival, non-home discharge and long hospital stay.
