Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Abstract: In the US, H. pylori vacA shows allelic variation in the signal sequence (which may be type sla, slb or s2) and the mid-region (type ml or m2). Previous PCR-based vacA mid-region typing classified most, but not all, Asian and South American strains tested as ml or m2. We now sought to investigate vacA mid-region diversity further.MotlmodL We studied 13 Japanese, 6 Chinese, 9 Thai, and 8 Peruvian H. pylori isolates. cagA was identified by colony hybridisation (CH), vacA signal sequence was typed by PCR, and va… Show more

The two most common subtypes are Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) . The aetiology of IBD is unknown; however, it is currently believed that environmental and/or microbial triggers may induce IBD among the genetically predisposed .…”

“…7 Osteopenia and osteoporosis develop as a result of malabsorption of calcium and vitamin D, 13 decreased levels of vitamin K, 8 treatment with steroids, and chronic inflammation of the intestine. 2 In addition to impaired linear growth, pubertal delay is also seen in children who fail to achieve remission or those who have frequent relapses. 11 Close monitoring of pubertal advancement is extremely important in this patient population.…”
