An essential element for the sustainable use of renewable resources is an efficient comminution process. For efficient comminution processes, detailed knowledge of the fracturing processes is necessary. Therefore, single-particle comminution under impact stress was investigated, and the influence of the moisture content and the particle size in single-particle comminution of beech wood is described. The extent of applicability of the existing models to wood, for modeling the breakage probability function for brittle materials, was investigated.
