Influence of acetylene on methane–air explosion characteristics in a confined chamber

Abstract: To study the impact of acetylene on methane explosions, the safe operation of coal mines should be ensured. In this paper, a 20 L spherical tank was used to study the explosive characteristics of acetylene–methane–air mixture. In addition, the GRI-Mech3.0 mechanism was used to study the chemical kinetic mechanism for the mixed gas, and the effect of adding acetylene on the sensitivity of methane and the yield of free radicals was analysed. The results show that acetylene can expand the scope for methane explos… Show more

“…Coal dust explosion belongs to the combustion process of multiphase flow, and the duration of the explosion is very short, making the explosion process difficult to capture. Scholars can obtain the intensity characteristics of gas and coal dust explosions through continuous experiments and have achieved certain results 20 26 . Numerical simulation technology has also been developed to explore the characteristics and propagation process of coal dust explosions.…”

“…Methane gas explosions are a major hazard in coal mines, leading to significant consequences, including economic losses for coal enterprises, human casualties, environmental damage, and severely hindering the coal industry's production 1 , 2 . Gas explosions release an immense amount of energy instantaneously, resulting in a high-temperature environment.…”

“…The threat from gases, such as methane, acetylene, and coal dust, in the form of their increased concentrations in the air can be efficiently monitored by using specialized instruments [2][3][4]. As a result, accidents related to gas explosions are reported to be decreasing [5][6][7][8]. Seismic tremors occur when the accumulated energy of generated stresses finds an outlet in the form of rock mass destruction.…”
