Influence of PEDOT:PSS buffer layer on the performance of organic photocoupler

Abstract: We have fabricated an organic photocoupler with organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with 520 nm emissive wavelength as the input light source and a photodiode (PD) based on poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT):1-(3-methoxycarbonyl)propyl-1-phenyl-(6,6)-C 61 (PCBM) as the detector. The influences of buffer layer (PEDOT:PSS) on output current (I out ), current transfer ratio (CTR) and time response characteristics of the photocoupler device were studied. Through our experiments, It is found that the output current li… Show more

“…But without encapsulation, these devices always exhibit poor lifetimes, because acidic polymer layer which included ploy (3,4-ethlendioxythiophene):poly (styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) can react with metal electrode and alter its properties. In addition, the cathode with low work function is oxidized easily by oxygen and moisture in air [6][7][8] .According to the problems, the inverted organic solar cells (inverted-OSCs), in which the positions of the anode and cathode are reversed, have been demonstrated [9,10] . The devices can be used in air stably, and use the high work function metal as electrode and the metal oxide (TiO 2 , ZnO) as the electron acceptors at the ITO side.…”

“…The photodiode of a photocoupler can convert the optical signal input to the photocoupler into a form of voltage or current, and the conversion form can be adjusted according to actual conditions, so the photodiode can be considered as a photodetector. During the entire process of functioning of the optocoupler, the joint action of various components realizes the conversion from electricity to light and then to electricity, and also achieves the isolation of input signals and output signals [2]. The concept and model of "sharing" can not only save resources to a certain extent, but also provide people with a more convenient lifestyle.…”
