Summary: Vinylidene fluoride radical polymerizations were carried out using chain transfer agents of the general structure C 6 F 13 X, with X being l, Br or H. Homogeneity and monomer conversions were monitored by in-line spectroscopy. Apparent chain transfer constants at 120 8C are 8 Á 10 À1 , 8 Á 10 À2 and 2 Á 10 À4 for C 6 F 13 I, C 6 F 13 Br and C 6 F 13 H, respectively, which may be associated to the C-X bond energy. The polymer end groups significantly influence the crystallinity of the polymer and the thermal stability.
