Influence of respondent type on relationships between safety climate and safety performance in manufacturing firm

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to analyze the interrelation between the dimensions of safety climate and of safety performance in the Indian manufacturing industries. A cross-sectional survey was carried out using a sample of 242 manufacturing employees from five small- and medium-scale industries across north India. An organized questionnaire was developed to acquire participant’s demographic attributes and safety climate and safety performance factors. In accordance with the literature review, a model is hypot… Show more

“…the areas where there were PI(Precursor index) values bigger than the AI (Accident Index), are characterized by high potential hazards and there is a high level of expertise of its employees. This is corroborated by Gnoni et al (2013); Singh & Verma (2019): workers with high competences and training are more skilled and willing to better report near misses. The model application has outlined specific risk sources and hazards for each critical working area, guiding safety managers in order to better manage their efforts in prevention activities.…”

“…Relating to the second expected outcome: "To look for existing relationships between near misses and accidents at work", of all the 7 studies analyzed, only 3 of them: Andriulo & Gnoni (2014); Lander et al (2011); Singh & Verma (2019) identified relationships between near misses and accidents at work in the manufacturing industry.…”

“…Moreover, an LCC's indigenous efficiency is related to whether it is engaging in efficient business activities. Our data suggest that indigenous efficiency is a crucial parameter for firm performance, given that airline corporations seek to optimize (1993), Hu and Bentler (1999), Hair et al (2010), Byrne (2013), Singh andSharma (2014, 2016), Singh (2016), Singh and Verma (2018) Low-cost carrier model internal activities and processes related to their LCC programmes. Moreover, managers of LCCs tend to believe that effectiveness cannot be pursued at the cost of efficiency.…”

“…Recent research has indicated that improving safety behaviour and further reducing the incidence of accidents require a different strategy that is suited to their particular characteristics [18]. It has been found that safety climate [19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26], safety management [27][28][29][30] and safety leadership [31][32][33][34] are the leading factors of safety behaviour. Besides, safety training has also been found as one of the substantial factors that influences safety behaviour [35][36][37][38].…”
