Influence of structural modification on the properties of poly(amide–imide)s

Abstract: In this study, the influence of length of flexible groups on the properties of poly(amide–imide)s (PAIs), three-model polymers (poly(amide–imide)-4-aminobutyric acid, poly(amide–imide)-6-aminocaproic acid, and poly(amide–imide)-11-aminoundecanoic acid) possessing different flexible methylene units ((CH2)3, (CH2)5, and (CH2)10) in the main chain were designed. With increasing the number of methylene units, it is found that the tensile strength of PAIs decreased from 75 MPa to 55 MPa; meanwhile, the elongation a… Show more

“…Figure 1a shows the FTIR spectrum of the DIDA monomer. It can be observed that the characteristic absorption peaks appeared at 1712 cm −1 (C=O, imide ring) and 1398 cm −1 (C-N stretching, imide ring), which indicated the successful formation of the imide ring [24,25]. The 1 H-NMR spectrum of the DIDA monomer in DMSO-d6 is shown in Figure 1b.…”

“…As shown in the Scheme 1, the diimide-diacid (DIDA) was synthesized by the condensation of ODPA with 11-aminoundecanoic acid through dehydration cyclization, then PAI was prepared from 1,4-diaminobenzene and DIDA monomers through Yamazaki-Higashi phosphorylation reaction. [44][45][46][47][48][49] The proton nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H-NMR) spectra of DIDA and PAI are shown in Figure S1. Synthesis of DIDA.…”
