Influence of temperature on hydration-shell microstructure of chlorine and bromine anions in aqueous solution

Abstract: It has been found that the Cl -and Br -anions change the microstructure of their hydration shells in the temperature range 30-35°C. The effect was observed for simple salt solutions and ternary systems with different organic compounds. Probably this effect can be responsible for the thermoregulation of warm-blooded animals.

“…As it could be seen from values of τ b and K d , the chlorine ions seem to be in tighter contact with the protein than sodium ones. This fact is also consistent with the previously observed pattern [48].…”

“…For the 0.6 mM concentration of RRM2, the R 2 rates for 23 Na and 35 Cl increase by 12% and 60%, respectively. Such a strong protein effect on the relaxation of ions nuclei was observed earlier [26,27,30,48]. It could be seen that in the buffer R 1 = R 2 for both ions but at higher protein concentrations, the difference between R 1 and R 2 increases.…”

“…The study by Donets and Chizhik [131] offers a possible explanation for the thermoregulation of warm-blooded animals. The change of the microstructure of the hydration shell of Cl -and Br -anions within the temperature range of 30-35°C has been shown.…”
