Abstract

Introduction: it is estimated that in 2025 there will be about 1.2 billion people over 60 years of age. Research on association between pain and aging is currently highly valued in health sciences. The ultimate goal is to provide adequate pain control in the elderly population. Objectives: to compare pain threshold to mechanical pressure stimulation in elderly people, according to gender and presence or absence of chronic pain; to identify the prevalence of chronic pain in elderly people; to assess chronic pain in the elderly people according to gender; and the association between chronic pain and anxiety, depression, quality of life and functional capacity in the elderly people.
