Infrared Studies on Polymethyl Methacrylate Doped with a Sulphur-Containing Ligand and Its Cobalt (II) Complex During Gamma Radiolysis

Abstract: Infrared spectroscopic studies were performed for poly(methyl methacrylate) samples doped with an organic ligand (N,N-dioxaloyl benzenesulphonyl-N,Ndioxaloylthiocarbazide) and its cobalt (II) complex during gamma radiolysis after extraction of the dopant. There are no drastic changes in the IR-absorption band positions, but noticeable changes in the intensities are found. The relative transmission of IR-absorption bands such as bands at 750, 840, 1065, and 1388 cm À1 were measured relative to the transmission … Show more

“…Three characteristic peaks of PMMA appear at 1062, 985, and 845 cm −1 [37]. The bands observed at 1387 and 750 cm −1 correspond to the α-CH3 group [38]. The absorption bands centered at 1483, 1445, and 1435 cm −1 are associated with symmetrical deformation vibrations of the CH3 group [19].…”

“…Sayyah et al used the IR studies for investigation of the effect of gamma ray on the PMMA samples prepared in absence and presence of organic ligands and their cobalt (II) complex. They were successfully used for confirming the mechanism of degradation during gamma radiolysis (65,66) . The IR spectra of pure PMMA before and after thermal treatments are shown in Fig.1.…”

“…The most prominent absorption bands in the IR spectrum of PMMA are listed as C-H, C-O and C-C modes (4,(54)(55)(56)(57)(58)(59)(60)(61) . Effect of thermal treatment on the IR absorption bands of pure PMMA Thermal degradation mechanism of PMMA has been studied extensively (60)(61)(62)(63)(64) .…”
