Infrared Vibrational Absorption by U‐Centers in NaI

Abstract: The local mode absorption in the infrared due to U‐centers in NaI has been measured. The ratio of local mode frequencies with H− and D− isotopes is 1.34. The main band shows a temperature‐dependent shift and broadening as well as a side band structure produced by local modeband mode coupling. The results are briefly discussed as arising from various anharmonic potential terms.
