AbstractN,N′-Ethylenebis(acetylacetoniminato)Co(II),Co(acacen),and N,N′-ethylenebis(benzoyl acetoniminato)Co(II), Co(bzacen), catalyze the oxygen incorporation into 3-methylindole to give o-formylaminoacetophenone selectively. The adducts formation process of three components, that is, substrate, planar cobalt complex and molecular oxygen, and the following catalytic oxygen incorporation process were confirmed by manometric measurements of oxygen uptake, gas-chromatographic analyses of products and electronic spectra of intermediate oxygen adducts. The mechanism was further justified by the study of 1H NMR spectra on overall reactions.
