Spider bites are uncommon medical events, since there are limited number of spiders worldwide with fangs strong enough to pierce human skin, and most spiders bite humans only as a final defense when being crushed between skin and another object. Thus, most lesions attributed to spider bites are caused by some other etiology. The spiders that can cause medically significant bites include widow and false widow spiders (worldwide), recluse spiders (mostly North and South America), Australian funnel web spiders (eastern coastal Australia) and Phoneutria spiders (Brazil). Acute spider bites most commonly result in a solitary papule, pustule, or wheal. Systemic symptoms can accompany envenomation of widow; funnel web, and Phoneutria spiders, and less often, those of recluse spiders.

Hypersensitivity or allergy encompasses a wide range of immunological reactions that generally have adverse consequences involving one or many organ systems of the body. Allergens are usually glycoprotein or chemically complex low molecular weight substances. The common allergens include pollen, fungal spores, house dust mite and house dust, animal danders, drugs, foods, insect emanations, and detritus, etc. Information on the role of insects in respiratory allergy is increasing in the literature. There are about 30 million living species of insects. These insects can broadly be classified as stinging insects, biting insects and non-stinging and non-biting insects. All materials form insets namely wings, scales, saliva; dried feces and venom can cause allergic diseases, such as rhinitis, conjunctivitis, asthma and urticaria. There are wide varieties of insects such as moths, butterflies, bees, wasps, hornets, yellow jackets, flies, beetles, cockroaches, and mosquitoes. Exposure to emanations and detritus of these insects may lead to several allergies in some genetically predisposed individuals. Therefore, it is of interest to review allergies caused by various insect’s stings and bites and their adverse effect on the human body.

The bloodsucking arthropod bite is the cofactor in the transmission of infectious diseases to man and animals. They release with saliva powerful anti-homeostatic and immuno-modulators that favor the replication and the establishment of the infective pathogen. The transmission depend on the close contact of the child with a seropositive mother (or relatives) whose infective saliva is used to relieve itching and scratching at the arthropod bite's sites. Vector-borne diseases are caused by parasites, bacteria or viruses transmitted by the hematophagous arthropods bite (mainly ticks and mosquitoes). The past decades there were emergence of new diseases or re-emergence of existing diseases, due to changes in their epidemiology (i.e. geographical distribution, prevalence, pathogenicity and vector-capacity). Besides, human factors, such as travel with pets, changes in human habitats, social and leisure activities have their input, but climate changes also have a direct impact on arthropod vectors. Vaccinations are up to date for diseases prevalent in the area, but what about diseases beyond vaccination? Wear light-colored, long-sleeved shirts and long trousers, tucked into socks or boots, and the use of insect repellent on exposed skin and clothing to protect from being bitten by mosquitoes, sandflies and/or ticks. This review discussed the vectors, diseases and feasible insecticidal control.
