The present work is intended to fabricate titanium diboride (TiB2) and yttrium oxide (Y2O3) fused bronze metal matrix composite by stir casting technique to achieve effective mechanical and corrosion properties. TiB2- Y2O3 nanocomposite powders were synthesized using the mechanical milling synthesis technique. Spectroscopic analyses like Powder X-Ray Diffraction (PXRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) were used to characterize the synthesized nanopowders. The XRD data revealed the average crystalline size of 110±5 nanometres with a hexagonal and cubic phase structure of TiB2 and Y2O3. The fundamental modes and other functional groups of the nanocomposite were analyzed using the FTIR analysis. The SEM images revealed the irregular morphological structures of the composite powders. The bronze metal matrix composite is fabricated by varying the weight percentage of TiB2-Y2O3 nanocomposite as 2%, 4%, and 6 wt.% with bronze alloy via stir casting technique. XRD graphs revealed the formation of metal matrix composite and the FESEM graphs revealed the porous morphology of the composite. The mechanical performance of the composite was analyzed by using the tensile, compression, and hardness tests. Specimen with 4% wt.% reinforcement material offered higher mechanical properties with 303 MPa tensile, 810 MPa compression, 141 HRB hardness, and good corrosion resistance. Hence the fabricated TiB2-Y2O3 fused bronze metal matrix composite with good mechanical and corrosion properties can be used for various sea environment applications.

Magnetic metal-carbon nanocomposites (MMCN) are emerging as sustainable materials, consisting of magnetic metals or alloys and carbon-based materials like CNT, graphene (Gr), carbon fiber (CF), and activated carbon. These materials possess unique magnetic properties that depend on various factors, such as preparation conditions, metal content, and phase composition. Incorporating carbon-based materials into magnetic metals has been observed to enhance their magnetic properties, including magnetic strength and moment. Researchers employ a range of tests to characterize these materials, such as FTIR, XRD, FESEM, TEM, BET, and VSM. Carbon-based materials such as CNT, graphene, etc., have been used as filler materials to reinforce the metal matrix because of their sustainability, tendency to integrate, and low cost. Further, they enhance the tribological performance and mechanical strength, provide corrosion resistance and improve electrical and thermal properties. Additionally, the addition of filler magnetic material in single or hybrid form into the carbon matrix increases the scope of application of MMCN. These composites are widely used in the application of biomedical, semiconductors, tribology, fuel cells, etc. In the present study, a comprehensive review has been carried out to provide a view of the fabrication aspect of the MMNC and to understand the role of the reinforcement method used to fabricate the composites. Finally, it covers different uses of the MMCN, which can lead to an eco-friendly environment.

The machining of aluminium metal matrix composites (aluminium MMCs) presents a dynamic landscape of opportunities and challenges, with electrical discharge machining (EDM) emerging as a promising technique. This review article systematically navigates the intricate interplay between AMMCs’ unique characteristics and the EDM process. Through a comprehensive analysis of existing literature, we uncover the underlying mechanisms that govern the machining dynamics of AMMCs, exploring their compositional variations, reinforcement distribution and thermal properties. The article delves into the opportunities offered by EDM, such as precision machining of intricate geometries, inherent thermal control and the ability to navigate the varying hardness levels in AMMCs. Furthermore, the review addresses the challenges that arise, including electrode wear, surface integrity preservation and the influence of reinforcement particles on material removal rates. The authors highlight the role of parameter optimisation in achieving desirable machining outcomes, underlining the need to strike a balance between material removal efficiency and surface finish quality. Additionally, environmental considerations in EDM of AMMCs are discussed, emphasising sustainable machining strategies in line with contemporary ecological concerns. As the field of advanced materials and manufacturing continues to evolve, this review article provides valuable insights for researchers, engineers and industries seeking to harness the potential of EDM in machining AMMCs. By navigating the intricate landscape of opportunities and challenges, this article contributes to a holistic understanding of the nuanced relationship between EDM and AMMCs, laying the foundation for future advancements in precision machining of these composite materials.
